I agree with you re: Atlantis.
Plato is the only writer to have mentioned Atlantis by name and go in depth describing it. However he’s known to use a lot of allegory and metaphors, so we’ve no way of knowing how much (if any) is actually describing a real place.
There’s a theory that he’s actually writing historical fiction. Basically describing events that happened to a real place, but changing names etc. Examples posited by people much more knowledgeable than I include the Thera eruption, the sea people’s invasion or the trojan war.
Still… Would be cool if they found it.
