I tried to search for a thread like this, but I am a notoriously bad looker, so please remove if needed!
Last Voyage of the Demeter is actually really good. It was really well acted and shot, a few weird cgi moments but some instant classic images and moments too. Not scary but I don’t think it wanted to be. I like the changes from the book and hope there is a sequel.
Watched “You are so not invited to my Bat Mitzvah” with the mrs the other day. Not bad for a comedy but not the best either. It had its moments.
As for the prior to that, the original Alien movie, which is more of my cup of tea. Might watch the Thing again here soon, although I perfer to wait until there is a blizzard outside whenever I do.
The last movie I watched was called, “The Adoption Brokers”, with Cybil Shepard. I watched it last night before I fell asleep. I love a good Lifetime Movie, so this falls in line with that. A woman was desperate to have a baby and trusted a young couple to put their baby up for adoption. She took care of them, gave them money etc, but come to find out, they were conning her as well as a few other people as well.
A Dark Song - highly recommended.
The man from Toronto
We started horror movie season in late July as normal haha.
Sator: I think it might be top tier but I need to watch it a few more times. 100% recommend.
Grave Encounters: Another winner, the 1st one at least. The 2nd is unnecessary but fun. Also 100% recommend.
Residue (2017): rewatch, one of the best true “lovecraftian” movies, 100% rec.
A Cure for Wellness: re-watch, the PERFECT first half and beautiful imagery is greatly spoiled by the back end. Still a decent Dracula movie. 60% rec
Pontypool: this sucked with no redeeming features. The “lovecraftian” label is a legit lie. 0% rec, skip it.
In the Mouth of Madness: another stinker imo, though that appears unpopular. Maybe if you just want to kill time. 25%
Hell House LLC: scariest ive seen in a while, really fun, nice and vague, 100% rec. Skip the sequels.
Session 9: rewatch, this is probably the perfect middle ground. There is nothing amazing nor terrible about it, a good standard to measure other movies by. 75%, but if youre just looking for easy fun horror 100%.
Skeleton Key: the definition of “fine.” 25% rec
Hereditary: i generally hate a24 but this film is legitimately fantastic. 100%
Enemy: i remembered why i hate a24. 0%
The Hole in the Ground: confirmed hereditary as a fluke, a24 sucks. 0%
Horror in the High Desert: not worth reviewing, 0%
I thought “Vice” and “Don’t Look Up” were relatively entertaining, but I don’t think I’ve seen anything else from them…
The new Puss in Boots movie
The Haunted Mansion
Dracula Untold is pretty good. It’s not amazing or anything but welcome in the rotation
Forgot to say maybe 75% rec. Yes if you like vampires, otherwise you can skip
I remember liking Dracula 1992, but I sure don’t anymore.
I liked Dracula untold
What changed?
Yeah the more I think about Dracula Untold the more I liked it. Sad I just packed it, will be first out of the box next month.
Idk about 1992 @Heathen_Hermit . In the past I think I could enjoy a whole movie if i just liked parts, and I love the intro of D92. But it just gets increasingly cringey and campy, and feels like at least 3 movies (gothic horror, creepy romance, and camp comedy). I only like the first.
I had the same problem with Cure for Wellness this last time. I love the first half but it deteriorates into three movies that are increasingly worse. It’s honestly a D92 remake I feel like.
I also rewatched Last Voyage to round out the Dracula week, and its honestly a favorite of mine already. I really love it, theres one small point where it drags and gets a bit hollywood near the end, but finishes on a high note and the rest is virtually perfect. Favorite vampire flick and 2nd favorite age of sail flick.
We also tried to watch The Road. Viggo Mortensen is my favorite actor but dang that movie sucks. We finish some awful movies but nope, couldnt do it.
The movie “Drive” (2011) with Ryan Gosling. I don’t know why but that movie strikes a cord with me.
Maybe there’s just memories attached to it, idk.
Hidalgo really made an impression on me as a child. Haha
When I see Belial that’s who he looks like to me. The LOTR version.
